For this tutorial you are going to need:
- Plastic headband, any width will do, but I like it better thin
- 3/8'' grosgrain ribbon matching fabric or contrasting
- Glue gun and hot glue sticks
- Button or something to put in the middle of the flower
- Fabric
Don't cut the ribbon yet, because depending the width of your headband the amount of ribbon you are going to need. Start by sealing the edge so it doesn't fray (with a lighter, check fray, etc)
Add a dot of hot glue on the inside of the headband, and glue the ribbon diagonally (see picture)
Turn it around and add a dot of glue and fold the smallest piece of ribbon so it covers the tip of the headband.
Add another dot of hot glue and start wrapping the ribbon around the headband, adding a dot of hot glue every 3 to 4 inches, add the hot glue on the inside of the headband, so you don't have any bumps showing.
Try to match edges with the ribbon, trying not to overlap the ribbon, but touching edge with edge.
When you get to the end of the headband, cut the ribbon diagonally (see pic) fold it to the back of the headband, and repeat the process as you did in the beginning, making sure you cover the headband, so no plastic is showing.
This is how your headband should look like. Set it aside.
Depending on the layers you want your flower to have, cut circles of fabric from biggest to smallest. I wanted my flower to have three size of petals, so I cut three sizes of circles (2 1/2, 2, 1 1/2 inches in diameter). I cut about 4 of each and 6 of the 1 1/2 ones (you are gonna use two extra circles to glue the flower to)
(sorry but for some reason I'm just showing two sets of circles not the three I actually cut)
Grab one of the circles and fold it in half, and then in half again, to have like a "V" shape. Now for this part you can sew by hand the pointy part so it stays in place. Me?! I like to use hot glue (less work hehe), so if you are using hot glue too, just add a dot of it between the fabric so it stays in a "V" shape. Keep doing this with all the circles.
(sorry again, but I didn't take pictures of the actual process of putting the flower together, but is pretty easy)
With the extra 1 1/2'' circle of fabric put it down and add glue to the middle, start gluing the petals to the middle of the circle (to find the middle of the circle fold it in half and half again length and wide, and you 'll find the center. I'm sure you knew that already!) from largest to smallest. When done add a button, or anything else you like in the middle, to cover the glue.
Grab your headband and add hot glue to the side you want the flower to be on, it can even be in the middle! Put pressure on the flower so it stays there. Turn it around and add glue to the back of the flower and circle, and glue the other 1 1/2'' extra circle.
aww I love it, do you?
